DESCRIPTION:Cochrane Switzerland and Chur University of Applied Sciences\, 
 Swiss Institute of Information Science\, are pleased to announce the follo
 wing 3-day course:\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nAdvanced search techniques and advanced s
 earch strategy design for systematic reviews\, health technology assessmen
 t and guideline development\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nWed 9 October – Fri 11 October

 \nThis three-day course will address the challenges of advanced search str
 ategies using different conceptual approaches and search techniques.  It
  will also introduce text analysis techniques such as text mining to demon
 strate their potential for developing and testing search strategies.\n\n&n
 bsp\;\n\nObjectives:\n\nLearn and apply new search techniques to improve i
 nformation retrieval\n\nShare insights and best approaches\n\nDiscuss vari
 ations in current best practice\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nTarget audience:\n\nMedical 
 / healthcare librarians\, information specialists\, researchers\, authors 
 of systematic reviews and other professionals wishing to develop advanced 
 search strategies\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nPrerequisites:\n\nExperience in searching 
 databases such as MEDLINE / PubMed\n\nParticipants need to bring their own
  laptops\n\nGood command of English\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nContents:\n\nThe worksho
 p includes presentations\, small group and plenary discussions and interac
 tive sessions allowing the participants to practise the concepts and metho

 tration deadline. The participation fee must be settled at least three wee
 ks prior to the course by means of the invoice that will be sent to all ca
 ndidates having received a participation confirmation. We reserve the righ
 t to cancel the course if there are too few registrations.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nA
 ny withdrawal within three weeks before the course is subject to a cancell
 ation charge amounting to 50% of the participation fee\; however\, the ent
 ire fee remains due to Cochrane Switzerland in the case of a withdrawal wi

 cate of attendance will be issued to participants who complete the course.

 te Director\, York Health Economics Consortium (YHEC)\, University of Yor
 k\, UK.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nJulie is a qualified librarian who has been working 
 in the field of systematic reviews for more than 25 years. Since 2008 she
  has coordinated YHEC's information and review services to customers wh
 o require literature searches and reviews of all types. Julie manages rev
 iews ranging from rapid reviews to systematic reviews to inform submissi
 ons to reimbursement agencies such as NICE. Julie also manages indirect a
 nd mixed treatment comparisons.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nBefore joining YHEC\, Julie 
 was Associate Director and Information Service Manager at the Centre for 
 Reviews and Dissemination (CRD) at the University of York for fourteen y
 ears. In this role Julie managed information support for systematic revie
 ws and technology assessments within CRD and to external customers\, and
  managed CRD’s NHS Economic Evaluation Database.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nJulie is 
 a co-convenor of the Cochrane Information Retrieval Methods Group\, a co
 -author of the Cochrane Handbook chapter on searching for evidence and ha
 s contributed to the development of systematic review guidance for severa
 l organisations including the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination and th
 e European Food Safety Authority. Julie is an Associate Editor for the j
 ournal Research Synthesis Methods.  Julie’s research interests are i
 n search filter design and appraisal\, text mining applications in syste
 matic reviewing and the efficient identification of research evidence for
  systematic reviews\, economic evaluations and models and health technolo
 gy assessments.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nCarol Lefebvre is an independent informati
 on consultant.  She was a founder of The Cochrane Collaboration and was p
 reviously the Senior Information Specialist at the UK Cochrane Centre\, wh
 ere she worked from its inception in 1992 to 2012.  She is Co-Convenor of
  the Cochrane Information Retrieval Methods Group\, serves on the Cochrane
  Methods Executive and is lead author on the searching chapter of The Coch
 rane Handbook.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nShe was awarded an M.Sc. in Library and Infor
 mation Science from the University of Loughborough (UK) in 1985 and an Hon
 orary Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Pro
 fessionals in 2007. She now focusses on training and consultancy in infor
 mation retrieval for evidence synthesis\, such as systematic reviews\, hea
 lth technology assessment and guideline development.  She is also a regu
 lar contributor to the Peer Reviewing Search Strategies section of SuRe In
 fo (Summarized Research in Information Retrieval for Health Technology Ass
 essment).
