DESCRIPTION:The IFLA Health and Biosciences Libraries Section\, in collabor
 ation with the IFLA Evidence for Global and Disaster Health Special Intere

 n of Ireland\, are co-sponsoring a satellite meeting in conjunction with t
 he IFLA World Library &amp\; Information Congress. The theme of the meetin
 g is:\n\nExploring How Open Science and Open Access Influence the Spread o
 f Health Misinformation and Disinformation and How Librarians Can Help.\n\
 nIn an Inside Higher Ed article (8 November 2021)\, titled “As Misinfor
 mation Grows\, Scholars Debate How to Improve Open Access“\, Roger Schon
 feld\, Director for Libraries\, Scholarly Communications\, and Museums for
  Ithaka S&amp\;R\, calls for librarians to take an active role to prevent
 misinformation in the Open Access Movement.\n\nIn response\, this half-day
  seminar will explore the strengths of the Open Movement– e.g. potential
  to widely share health data and information\; and its vulnerabilities–
 e.g. proneness to misinformation\, fraud\, and politicization. The seminar
  will also highlight how librarians and information professionals have ove
 rcome issues with open access in low-resourced areas\, such as the issue o
 f preprint quality\, energy/Internet insecurity\, and/or publishing in ope
 n access journals.\n\nMore information.\n\n&nbsp\;
