This course will look at how to understand and appraise research articles. We will learn how to quickly read a paper and grasp its key findings, how to interpret and understand key data, how to appraise a paper’s methods and assess its usefulness and value. We will look at ‘internal validity’ – how close the research has got to the ‘truth’, and ‘external validity’ – can the research be usefully applied in our own work situation? Overall the course aims to help you become a better user of research.
