In honor of National Preparedness Month in September, Region 1 is pleased to host a disaster preparedness webinar for all types of libraries.  This webinar is designed to improve your Library’s ability to respond to a sudden disaster by laying out five easy steps to follow.

The guest speaker will be Dan Wilson, Associate Director for Collections & Library Services at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Library. Dan was the Coordinator for the Network of the National Library of Medicine’s National Emergency Preparedness & Response Initiative from 2007 to 2016. During that time, he facilitated training programs and engagement opportunities about emergency preparedness for libraries, communities, community-based health organizations and emergency planners. Dan has worked with state library agencies in South Carolina, New Jersey, Montana, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Maryland, and Virginia.

Objectives:

  1. Identify steps to include in a plan for disasters that strike without warning
  2. Construct a response and succession plan
  3. Formulate an after-action review and find a buddy library
